EXCITING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY FROM LISA TAYLOR-SWANSON

In collaboration with the National Tongan American Society, I’m organizing a “pop-up” Integrative Health (IH) clinic. Inspired by medical students at UCSF and Harvard Medical School who started IH clinics for their communities, I would like to do so in our Salt Lake area community.

This “pop-up clinic” will be either at the Sorensen Community Center or at a church – location TBD soon. The location will be a community location that is known, convenient, and accessible (not a healthcare clinic or hospital). We will have hand washing facilities and observe all clean needle techniques as well as massage hygiene regulations. We will have group acupuncture and group massage – all patients will wear clothing and we’ll be in a gymnasium or other large room. I’ll also have paperwork for patients to sign in terms of consenting to receive treatment, and verbiage in terms of liability for clinicians. While starting with Pacific Islander colleagues, we could later branch out to Latina, Refugee, African American, Native American, and other communities. Read more about the “Small Steps Project” for inspiration – I learned about this at a national research conference in Chicago a few weeks ago. So inspiring! Let’s mobilize and work to help our communities here in Utah https://www.wegotusproject.org/smallstepsproject I have a long-term vision that includes hourly compensation for clinicians, however, to start, this is a 4-hour volunteer commitment for one or more days (your call). We will be collecting data (of course! This is me writing the email ) that will inform possible funding sources – data drives policy, folks! We will apply to local opportunities, with DHHS, SL County, and the like. We will NOT be going the slow and miserable route of seeking NIH funding. If you are interested in volunteering, please reply to me at lisa.taylor-swanson@nurs.utah.edu If you’d like to volunteer for 4 hours on a Saturday: please let me know if you’re available for 1 or more shifts May 27: 8-noon; 1-4 June 3: 8-noon; 1-4 June 10: 8-noon; 1-4 Can you bring a portable massage table? Yes/No Can you bring a portable massage chair (or acu recliner chair)? Yes/No If you’re a Massage Therapist: Can you bring massage lotion or oil? Yes/No If you’re a Licensed Acupuncturist: Can you bring a sharps container? (I have needles, cotton balls, alcohol already donated) Yes/No Are you willing to help with organizational details/volunteer with some organizing tasks and possibly data collection? Yes/No Please help me to spread the word and forward this email to colleagues who you think might find this opportunity of interest. Those of you outside of Salt Lake: I included you on this email in hopes that you might help spread the word – thanks! Thank you! I think together we can help Pacific Islander community members with pain, stress, and more, while simultaneously increasing awareness about massage and acupuncture therapies. And, eventually, I hope we can grow an ongoing IH Pop Up Clinic that provides a good hourly wage to massage therapists and licensed acupuncturists! I look forward to hearing from you. Tinted tiles theme set

The Tinted tiles theme set was based on a modern flat design trend. The look of the theme can be customized by simply choosing different spacing for gadgets and selecting background colors that are best fit for your association. Taking colors from your association logotype is in most cases the right way to go.

The Tinted tiles theme set also introduces animation within system pages. You can find animated control panels on blog and forum pages for example.

Donation goal

Here you can place a brief description of your fundraising campaign. You can add the description within the donation goal gadget settings. There, you can also select a different style for your gadget to better fit your page design. The donation goal gadget does not have its own background setting, but you can set the background for the layout in which the gadget has been placed.

Background image for your gadgets

While the flat design of this theme set does not encourage using images as backgrounds, that shouldn't stop you. Use your best judgement to decide whether to use background images.

Margins, grids and typography

Any good looking site must have some kind of system to make it look consistent across all pages and within pages themselves. With this theme you can use all kinds of grids to make that happen. You can use a 10px grid so all your margins and padding will be a multiple of 10. Or you can use any other grid, but once you've chosen your multiplier, we advise you stick to it.

In our case, we use 10px as layout and gadget spacing, and 40px as side padding for the gadgets themselves

Light and dark backgrounds

Gadgets are building blocks of Wild Apricot site pages. Each page consists of one or more gadgets arranged within page-specific layouts or theme-specific placeholders.

To help you set up your pages, this theme provides two theme styles for light and dark backgrounds. These styles have special typography that will make your gadget look good on the background of your choice.
